Denim Day Wednesday 4/29/26

Wear denim to protest against victim blaming and to show support to victims of sexual assault.

What is Denim Day?

  • Denim Day is recognized on the last Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
  • It began after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, arguing that the victim’s tight jeans implied consent.
  • Following the supreme court ruling, women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
  • Inspired by this case and the activism surrounding it, Peace Over Violence and Executive Director Patti Giggan developed the Denim Day campaign in 1999.
